Today, we welcomed interns from all across the world to Georgetown University’s campus for another exciting week! Their first day on campus marks the start of a life-changing week, during which lives are transformed and lifelong friendships are formed.

This week, interns will have the opportunity to work closely with businesses from Bauchi State, Nigeria, while also hearing from various business leaders in both the United States and Nigeria. Interns will have the opportunity to work closely with mentors who will guide them as they assist various businesses in Nigeria.
After all of the interns had arrived and settled into their dorms in Reynolds Hall, they were welcomed into the program with a keynote speech by Marshall Bailly, Leadership Initiatives’ Executive Director, who outlined expectations and rules crucial for the success of the interns. Following the keynote speech, interns were introduced to Zac Clark, the Director of the International Leadership and Business Program, as well as Annie Jin and Eli Seiden, the Assistant Directors of the program, who helped introduce teams to the business partners they will be working with for the remainder of the week. The interns were also greeted by Umar Muhammad, Leadership Initiatives’ Nigeria Country Director, who introduced the problems with businesses in Nigeria and development around the world.

The day concluded with a memorable monument tour, as interns gathered on a bus to the National Mall. They toured the Lincoln Memorial, World War II Memorial, and the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial with their weekly teams. This offered teams a meaningful moment to bond, giving interns the chance to form connections with their new teams. It was a fitting end to an inspiring day, just before meeting their project coordinator and business partner for the first time tomorrow
