Monday morning marks the first round of business partner calls in the International Leadership and Business Internship. As interns joined their Nigerian partners and project coordinators on Zoom, the virtual divide melted into meaningful conversation.

Though many were meeting for the very first time, interns came prepared: not just with questions, but with genuine interest. Each question sparked a new story behind the businesses. Whether it was how they started, what challenges they face, or where they hope to grow, interns listened attentively as entrepreneurs shared personal anecdotes and market realities unique to Bauchi State.
As infrastructure and marketing teams had separate calls, they asked about everything from marketing strategies to infrastructure logistics, showing not just enthusiasm but a readiness to co-create. Some partners spoke about resource limitations; others about cultural nuances that shape consumer behavior. Every detail helped interns start crafting support plans that weren’t generic—they were tailored.

From intern Emily E., the experience was transformative:
“It was eye-opening. I learned so much valuable insight and I’m already looking forward to our next Zoom call.”
It was a call filled with firsts: first introductions, first glimpses into grassroots innovation, and first steps toward collaboration that values empathy as much as business acumen.

By the end of the session, interns weren’t just engaging with businesses. They were engaging with stories—and laying a foundation for partnership grounded in curiosity, respect, and shared vision.
