The first full day of the International Leadership and Business Internship marked the beginning of the consulting experience as interns met the Nigerian business owners they would be working alongside throughout the week. Through meaningful conversations and interactive sessions, participants began building the relationships that will guide the marketing and infrastructure solutions they develop during the program.

The morning began with a welcome presentation from Program Director Zac Clark, who introduced the week's schedule, explained the consulting process, and outlined what interns could expect throughout the program. Following his presentation, Nigerian Country Director Umar Muhammad shared an overview of Nigeria's business environment, offering valuable insight into the country's entrepreneurial landscape and helping interns better understand the communities and businesses they will be supporting.

Interns then joined their Nigerian business partners and project coordinators for introductory Zoom meetings. During these conversations, students introduced themselves, learned about their partners' businesses, and asked questions about their backgrounds, families, and professional experiences. These discussions provided interns with a deeper understanding of each business's goals and challenges, helping them begin to shape marketing and infrastructure recommendations tailored to each company's specific needs.

As the conversations continued, business owners shared the stories behind their companies' obstacles that they are trying to overcome and their vision for the future. These exchanges not only provided valuable information for the consulting projects but also created meaningful connections built on collaboration and shared learning. Interns left the meetings with a stronger understanding of their partner businesses and excitement for the work ahead.

Before breaking for lunch, interns attended two professional development sessions. Marc presented Consulting Across Business Industries, introducing students to the role of consultants and explaining how consulting strategies can create value across a variety of industries and business functions. Following this presentation, Carla led Introduction to Branding, where interns explored the fundamentals of building a strong brand identity and learned how effective branding can help businesses strengthen customer relationships and stand out in competitive markets.

The morning's experiences established a strong foundation for the week ahead, equipping interns with new knowledge, valuable partnerships, and the confidence to begin developing thoughtful solutions for their Nigerian business partners.
