Just this week, Interns traveled from all corners of the country to Georgetown University, eager to dive into a week of hands-on exploration, leadership, and learning. The first day of the Middle School Jumpstart Program set the tone for the week, welcoming ambitious young minds who are eager to build leadership skills and support real world change through global business development. Throughout the week, interns will work in teams to develop business microgrant proposals to help their assigned entrepreneur in Nigeria grow and better their business.

After settling into Reynolds Hall at Georgetown University, students had the opportunity to meet their roommate, connect with the Team Leads and peers, and learn more about the week ahead.

The evening’s highlight was a keynote address by Marc Zavarro, Leadership Initiatives’ Director of the Middle School Jumpstart Program, “Never Too Young to Change the World.” Marc spoke with conviction about how students, regardless of age, have the power to drive real and measurable change and impact in communities both locally and globally. His stories of past personal and intern achievements lit a fire in the room, reminding every intern that they are capable of leadership right now.

Shortly afterward, interns were introduced to their business assignment and the Business Partner they will be working with throughout the week. This initial dive into their projects sparked meaningful conversations about teamwork and problem solving.

To wrap up the day, students toured the National Mall, including a loop of Lincoln Memorial, the National World War II Memorial, and the Martin Luther King Memorial. The experience was both fun and engaging, allowing interns to bond while immersing themselves in the powerful symbolism of the nation’s capital. The week has just begun, but already, their commitment to learning and positive change is exceptional.
