It’s Congress Day! A highlight of the week begins with anticipation and excitement. Interns rise early, energized and focused, knowing they’re about to step into one of the most memorable experiences of the program. After a quick breakfast, they trade in their everyday business casual for polished professional attire, ready to walk the same halls as lawmakers and changemakers.
The day starts with a visit to Capitol Hill, where interns tour the Library of Congress. Surrounded by its grand architecture and historical treasures, students gain perspective on the legacy of American law and government. From there, they enjoy lunch at the Supreme Court, an inspiring and symbolic place to gather, reflect, and connect.

Back on Capitol Hill, the atmosphere shifts to one of concentration and readiness. Interns split into their congressional advocacy teams for final preparation. With talking points in hand and nerves giving way to confidence, they rehearse their messaging, clarify goals, and polish their delivery. Each team then heads to their scheduled meetings with members of Congress and legislative staff, putting weeks of research and planning into action. It’s their opportunity to advocate for real-world policy change, and they rise to the challenge.

After the meetings conclude, interns regroup with Brandi Harden for a final debrief. They share experiences, reflect on their conversations, and receive feedback to carry forward. The debrief is filled with a mix of relief, pride, and motivation as students recognize the significance of what they’ve just accomplished.
As the day winds down, a sense of achievement takes hold. Interns look back on everything they’ve learned and experienced, from designing policy proposals to discussing them in the heart of government. The day marks a milestone, not just in the program but in their personal journeys as leaders and advocates.
With their final presentations approaching, interns return to the dorms feeling fulfilled, inspired, and ready to finish the week with confidence and purpose.
