After lunch today, the interns visited the Medical Dental Building, to learn about malaria in Sub-Saharan Africa. We were so lucky to get to walk through this building to use this auditorium - Georgetown University does groundbreaking research here. Dr. Ibrahim shared her expertise in diagnosing and treating the illness, before we moved over to a different lecture hall to learn about Typhoid Fever and Nutritional Anemia from Dr. Yusuf and Dr. Nalado.

Then, we thought we’d have some fun with some hands-on, practical learning!! The interns learned how to apply a plaster cast. Plaster casts have a number of different uses, from treating fractured bones to supporting soft or strained ligaments and tissues. It takes 36 hours to fully dry, but it did set after a few minutes so they could feel the support!

Once we got all washed off, Dr. Christina Ho held a Q&A with the interns, sharing her story and expertise in the field of pediatric urology. They asked insightful questions about her passion, her work-life balance, her path through school, and all about her longest and most complicated surgeries.

After dinner, the interns got to start working with their teams on their Public Health Workshops! They came up with some solid starting points and areas they know they need to research a little further, and will get more time everyday this week to dig even further into how to create actionable change around health outcomes in a community.
