For our first day of material, interns were confronted with a packed schedule that included security calls, guest speakers, and work time.
The day started with a call to Borno State University and their security company. Interns were able to meet with Auwal Muhammad, a Leadership Initiatives staff member in Nigeria that is living in Borno State for the Security Internship, and three representatives from the Borno State University Security Company. They asked countless questions about the security company and learned valuable insight into the issues the university is facing.

After the security call, students heard a presentation from Rohin Sharma, the senior Middle East/Terrorism Analyst at the US Army, about intelligence, HUMINT and SIGINT as well as some intelligence failures. Mr. Sharma also accompanied our students to lunch and multiple students were lucky enough to speak with him over lunch and ask questions about possible careers, internships, and opportunities.

Still to come: a presentation by Jennifer Bennett, a survivor of the Navy Yard Shooting and an activist of mental health in the military; more from Mr. Sharma; a mentor meeting with mentors from the army, airforce, space force, White House, Department of Defense, AFRICOM, and more!
