As part of an action-packed Skills Day, our interns stepped directly into the shoes of specialized surgeons to put their clinical precision and hand-eye coordination to the test.

The star of today's technical training was the Laparoscopy Skill Day Workshop. Using a state-of-the-art Laparoscopic Endo Trainer, a high-definition simulator designed for abdominal surgery training, interns got a firsthand look at the challenging, high-tech world of minimally invasive surgery.

Because laparoscopic surgery requires operating through tiny incisions using long, slender instruments, students had to rely entirely on a monitor to guide their movements rather than looking directly at their hands. The room was filled with intense focus as they practiced complex motor skills, learned to overcome the "mirror effect" of their camera, and tested their spatial awareness with surgical tasks like moving small objects, maneuvering through tight spaces, and simulating tissue manipulation.

Under the guidance of their Team Leads, the initial quiet concentration quickly turned into a room buzzing with supportive cheers as interns successfully completed the exercises. Using their phones, they were able to create time-lapse videos of the activities allowing them to have a fun keepsake from the workshop. Spending time with new friends, listening to great music, and perfecting their motor skills created the perfect environment for fun, engaging learning, many even claiming it was their favorite skill of the day. It was an eye-opening, deeply interactive session that left our future medical professionals thoroughly inspired and ready to tackle the physical demands of modern surgery!
