A Day of National Security: Mission Accepted

Thursday’s adventure allowed the Middle School Jumpstart interns to sharpen their observation, critical thinking, and decision-making skills as they explored the fascinating world of intelligence and espionage. Through interactive exhibits and immersive experiences, students discovered how careful analysis, effective communication, and attention to detail are essential skills for solving complex challenges in both national security and everyday life.

Interns explored the world of espionage with a visit to the International Spy Museum in Washington, D.C. As they navigated exhibits, students created undercover identities, completed missions, and explored the history of espionage through real-world artifacts and stories. Along the way, they learned how intelligence professionals gather information, assess risks, and make informed decisions under pressure. Interactive challenges encouraged interns to think strategically, recognize patterns, and evaluate evidence before taking action, reinforcing the importance of careful observation and ethical decision-making.

Throughout the museum experience, students explored the evolution of intelligence gathering, from historical codebreaking and surveillance techniques to modern cybersecurity and technology. They gained a greater appreciation for the many careers that contribute to national and global security while recognizing the value of integrity, collaboration, and adaptability in high-stakes environments.

By the end of the tour, interns had strengthened the same analytical and collaborative skills they have been developing throughout the week. Whether completing a spy mission, interpreting clues, or evaluating information, students continued building the confidence, curiosity, and critical thinking abilities that will support them wherever their future leads. 

The continuation of Thursday's program allowed the Middle School Jumpstart interns to strengthen their communication, collaboration, and scientific inquiry skills as they continued developing innovative solutions with their Business Partners. Through meaningful conversations, project work, and hands-on laboratory experiences, students practiced applying critical thinking and teamwork to real-world challenges.

After lunch, interns engaged in Business Partner calls, where they connected with the partners assigned to them in order to share progress on their projects, ask thoughtful questions, and receive valuable feedback. These conversations challenged students to communicate their ideas clearly, listen actively, and incorporate professional perspectives into their developing proposals.

Following their partner meetings, students dedicated time to advancing their projects, working together to organize research, develop recommendations, and prepare for upcoming presentations. Throughout the work session, interns demonstrated creativity and problem-solving as they evaluated information, refined their ideas, and collaborated to create solutions that address the needs of their Nigerian business partners. This project work reinforced the importance of planning, teamwork, and thoughtful decision-making in creating meaningful and sustainable impact.

Later in the day, interns transitioned from the boardroom to the laboratory during a bone density lab. Through hands-on investigation, students explored the structure and strength of bones while examining the factors that influence bone health. By collecting observations, analyzing data, and making evidence-based conclusions, interns gained a deeper understanding of how scientific research informs healthcare and medical decision-making. 

The interns were then met with an exciting evening treat: ice cream. Interns enjoyed their sweet treat with their friends, taking the evening to relax after a day of project building and exploration.
