When they arrived at Georgetown University's stunning campus on a bright Sunday morning, the interns were greeted warmly by the enthusiastic staff of Leadership Initiatives who were more than happy to assist with their check-in! With their registration materials, each intern received a personalized LI program T-shirt and a drawstring bag filled with essential supplies for the week.

Once registration was complete, the interns had some free time to explore Georgetown’s campus on a guided tour and familiarize themselves with the various locations where they will be working this week. Some interns were also escorted to fun locations near campus like Starbucks and Call Your Mother Deli! After exploring, the interns settled into their dorms and began getting to know their roommates for the upcoming week.

Following a short break to rest and change into their LI shirts, all program participants gathered for an introductory session that provided an overview of Leadership Initiatives. This session covered vital information and program rules in order to establish a strong foundation for the interns' experiences at Georgetown University.

After the presentation, the interns enjoyed a fun dinner where they had the opportunity to socialize and unwind briefly before the next event of the day! They were then honored to hear from keynote speaker Brandi Harden, an esteemed attorney from Harden|Law, PLLC, who will be working with them during their time at LI. Brandi Harden is widely respected as a leading litigator and serves as the Managing Partner of the law firm collaborating with LI for this program.

Once Brandi finished inspiring the interns to achieve greatness, they had the chance to meet their team leads and fellow team members for the week. The interns chatted with each other and played some icebreakers - What’s your favorite ice cream flavor? was a popular question asked around the room. After getting to know each other and asking their team leads any questions that they had about the upcoming week, it was time for the monument tour!

The interns enjoyed a scenic bus ride on their way to the monuments and were greeted to a community salsa class happening below the steps of the Lincoln Memorial. The sun was just starting to set, the music was lively, and the views were beautiful - we took plenty of photos to capture the moment! Interns got to see the Lincoln Memorial before walking along the reflecting pool towards the World War II memorial and ending at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial.

After a short bus ride back, it was time to unwind and chat with their fellow interns before heading to their rooms for bed check. What an exciting first day at the Criminal Law and Trial Internship!
