Tuesday launched with dedicated work time, giving interns the opportunity to revisit their research, refine their preliminary recommendations, and prepare strategic questions for their second partner calls. This focused period allowed teams to dive deeper into their assigned security topics, ranging from cybersecurity infrastructure to community-based threat detection, while identifying areas where further input from their university partners in Nigeria would be essential.

Later in the morning, interns joined their second video conference with university partners abroad. These collaborative calls served as a vital checkpoint, allowing both sides to assess progress, exchange ideas, and ensure that the interns’ proposed solutions align with on-the-ground realities. Interns were challenged to listen actively, adapt their thinking in real time, and consider cultural and logistical nuances as they move toward their final protocol presentations.

Midday, the cohort gathered for a lecture by Dr. Lise Morjé Howard on The Role of Multinational Organizations in Global Diplomacy. Dr. Howard offered a compelling overview of how organizations like the United Nations, NATO, and regional alliances shape peacekeeping operations, mediate conflict, and reinforce global stability. Her session encouraged interns to critically evaluate the strengths and limitations of multinational cooperation in today’s rapidly evolving geopolitical landscape.

In the afternoon, interns visited the Embassy of Iraq. The ambassador and his team provided a rich overview of Iraq’s cultural heritage, the country’s educational system, its democratic developments, and its role within the broader Middle East. Interns asked insightful questions about diplomacy, development, and post-conflict governance, gaining a more nuanced understanding of Iraq’s place in global affairs.

The evening featured an Introduction to Public Speaking session with Jason Fabrikant, who guided interns through techniques to articulate complex ideas with clarity, confidence, and conviction, essential tools for emerging leaders. This was followed by a Hunter/Gatherer Group Review led by Gina Bennett, where teams exchanged constructive feedback, assessed project alignment, and fine-tuned their strategic direction.

Interns closed the day with their second mentor meeting, using the time to reflect, ask questions, and solidify their next steps. The night ended with dinner and exploration in Georgetown, giving interns a chance to relax, connect socially, and take in the vibrant campus neighborhood.
