Communication took center stage on Wednesday morning as interns continued developing the skills and knowledge needed to become stronger consultants and future leaders. Through conversations with their Nigerian business partners and sessions led by experienced professionals, students explored how effective communication, customer understanding, and global economics all play a role in building successful businesses.
Before the day's lectures began, interns used the morning to focus on their consulting projects, refining their ideas and preparing for the next stage of their work with their business partner. Those partner meetings provided an opportunity for interns to dive deeper into the challenges facing their assigned businesses. Teams exchanged updates, asked thoughtful questions, and gathered new information that will help shape their final recommendations. Each conversation strengthened the collaborative relationship between the interns and the entrepreneurs they have been working alongside throughout the program.

The focus then shifted from consulting to communication as Wendy Riemann introduced interns to the Fundamentals of Effective Public Speaking. With final presentations approaching, students learned techniques for structuring presentations, engaging an audience, and speaking with confidence. More than just presentation tips, the session emphasized the value of clear communication as an essential leadership skill.

Building on that theme, Tim Ito led Understanding Your Customer: Segmentation, Retention, and CRM, where interns explored how businesses create lasting relationships with their customers. By examining consumer behavior, market segmentation, and customer relationship management, students gained a better understanding of how successful organizations keep customers engaged while continuing to grow.

To conclude the morning, Bob Koopman presented Global Trade, Tariffs, and Exporting: Effects on Business, introducing interns to the ways international trade policies shape today's business environment. From tariffs and exports to the challenges of competing in global markets, the session encouraged students to think beyond local business operations and consider the broader economic forces that influence decision-making around the world.
With a morning full of collaboration, learning, and new perspectives behind them, interns headed to lunch ready to continue another exciting day of the International Leadership and Business Internship.
