As the sun began to set, the interns boarded buses for an unforgettable evening tour of Washington, D.C.’s most iconic monuments. The scenic ride took them straight to the heart of the National Mall, which served as the perfect backdrop for the students to relax, chat, and bond after a long day of learning about the diseases and preparing for their projects.

Once they arrived, the teams set out on foot to explore the historic grounds together. They walked to the towering statue of the Lincoln Memorial, stood by the fountains of the World War II Memorial, and took in the powerful words carved at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial. Interns had the opportunity to take group photos at each of the locations, creating new memories with new friends. They also visited the moving Vietnam Veterans Memorial, using the time to reflect on the history around them. With the beautiful night sky illuminating the monuments, the interns were able to close out their first official internship day in the heart of Washington, D.C.
