A Day of Leadership and Global Perspective

The second day of the International Leadership & Business Internship provided interns with opportunities to expand their leadership, consulting, and professional skills while continuing to build meaningful relationships with their Nigerian business partners. Through leadership development, embassy visits, career workshops, and consulting sessions, students gained valuable experiences that will help shape their work throughout the week.

The day began with Gerald Gangaram's presentation, Leading with Purpose: Inspiring Exceptional Leadership. Drawing from his experience in military service and international leadership, Gerald encouraged interns to lead with integrity, humility, and purpose. He shared how impactful leaders build trust, inspire those around them, and create meaningful change through service and collaboration.

Following the leadership lecture, interns traveled to the Embassies of Mongolia and Egypt, where they explored the role diplomacy plays in creating international relationships. At the Embassy of Mongolia, students learned about the country's rich nomadic heritage, democratic government, and growing role in international diplomacy. The embassy representatives discussed Mongolia's relationship with the United States, its commitment to sustainable development, and the importance of creating a balance between economic growth and environmental conservation. During their visit to the Embassy of Egypt, interns explored the nation's rich history alongside its modern diplomatic and economic priorities. Representatives highlighted Egypt's role in regional cooperation and international relationships, showcasing historical artifacts and artwork that reflected the country's cultural influence.

After returning to Georgetown, interns reconnected with their Nigerian business partners during their scheduled Business Partner Calls. Teams shared updates on their consulting projects, asked follow-up questions, and gathered valuable feedback that will help strengthen the marketing and infrastructure proposals they continue developing throughout the week.

The afternoon began with LinkedIn and Resume Building, presented by Carmen Danley, where interns learned how to create professional resumes, strengthen their LinkedIn profiles, and effectively communicate their experiences and accomplishments to future employers. Following the career development session, Eli Seiden led a Crisis Workshop, introducing students to the challenges businesses face when navigating unexpected situations. Through interactive discussion and real-world examples, interns explored the importance of adaptability, effective communication, and strategic decision-making. The interns were able to gain valuable insight into how strong leadership can help organizations overcome adversity.

Building on those skills, Nakera Dumas presented Advertising, Effective Sales Techniques, and Customer Service Excellence, where interns explored how businesses attract and retain customers through strategic marketing, effective communication, and exceptional customer service. Omobolaji Ode followed with Financial Management, Budgeting, Pricing Strategies, and Managing Cash Flow, introducing students to the financial principles that support sustainable business growth and encouraging them to incorporate these concepts into their consulting recommendations.

The day concluded with mentor meetings, where interns met with experienced professionals to review the progress of their consulting projects. Through personalized feedback and thoughtful discussion, mentors helped teams strengthen both their recommendations and presentation strategies while encouraging them to continue thinking critically about the solutions they will deliver later in the week.

By the end of Tuesday, interns had strengthened their leadership abilities, expanded their understanding of international diplomacy, and continued making meaningful progress on their consulting projects. With guidance from industry professionals, embassy representatives, mentors, and their Nigerian business partners, students left the day with new knowledge, stronger connections, and greater confidence as they continued their consulting journey.
